This month I am excited to share photos taken by our clients that traveled with us on safari. A big thank you to each of them for sharing their photos and their comments about our trips. In February we had a fantastic trip to Tanzania and Kenya followed in May with another outstanding safari in Botswana.

Safari Photos by Gary Sindell

Paul’s photographs are just the beginning of the “Safari Seduction.”  I first saw his work at the Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach, CA.  A year or two later I am dragging my friend back to his booth just to see his pictures. My travel-addicted friend spied the safari brochures and before I knew it we were signed up for the birthing-season in February 2013.  I had met Paul briefly that first time and had a good feeling about him.  And so I overcame my fears that Africa would be too uncomfortable or scary or dangerous, all the reasons I had never considered going.  I basically consider traveling a lot of work.

I am now signed up for Botswana, 2014.  I watch the “Big Cat Diaries” made by the BBC.  I have photographs of lions on my bedroom wall.  I worry about protecting the big five, about poaching, about China putting a road through Kenya, about the Masai, about anything that threatens these fabulous animals.  Seeing Africa through Paul Renner’s special “lens” is an experience not to be missed.  This man loves what he does and his clients are just lucky to be out with him.  His expertise, his experience, his kindness, and his unflagging energy make any Safari with him worth twice the price.  I can’t recommend his Safari any more highly.  Add marvelous accommodations (including an outdoor bathtub with my own pool of hippos and a band of baboons) and you have the trip of a lifetime. Camille Sindell

Good morning Paul,

Thank you for an amazing trip.  Five months later and we are still on an African high.  When people ask how the trip went, all we can say is we’d go back in a heartbeat.  There’s nothing like sleeping at the zoo every night.  Your trips are truly tailored for the photographer, including the limited number of people in a vehicle, time spent in the field, and last but not least, knowledgeable guides. Jeremy and Miranda Rae

There is nothing like the soul satisfaction one gets when traveling in Africa with Paul Renner.  It is a life dream fulfilled for me to be up close, personal and experiencing the animals day after day.  The landscape provides a back drop of serenity as you commune with the natural world in an untouched setting.  The plains of the Masai Mara and the Serengeti have a mystical effect and remind us of the goodness of life.  The animals invoke a sense of awe and wonder that lasts a life time.  Every time I leave, I am sure I am coming back and make sure I book the next trip as soon as I return home.  From the hand selected drivers, to the relationships Paul so effortlessly creates with the locals, and to the wonderment of seeing such wild beauty at it’s finest, I can easily say there is no place like home. Safari Photos by Deb Komatsu

Once again, we are back from an African adventure with Paul Renner.  This was our 6th safari with Paul.  Perhaps you are wondering why we keep going back.  Many of our friends and family keep asking that question, haven’t you seen it all?  What is different?  Animals, people, scenery?  Why would you go back to the same place over and over again?  Well, those are people who have never been to any part of Africa, have never been privileged to watch a young male leopard pose for two hours, have never come face to face with a curious elephant, have never watched a pair of fish eagles soaring and calling overhead, have never seen African wild dogs being chased off their kill by two lionesses who were then chased off the kill by their pride male, have never floated in a boat on the Chobe river watching, ho hum, just another spectacular African sunset.

This is why we keep going back and especially going back with Paul.  We have seen other tours, crammed into their vehicles, six, eight or nine people, no room to maneuver, on a tight schedule so no time to watch that leopard for two hours and out in the middle of the day when everything is asleep in the shade.

We are out early to enjoy the cool morning air and watch the sun rise and the animals awaken to a new day.  We are back in for a delicious breakfast/brunch, a short rest and then back out for the afternoon light and the animals coming out of their midday siestas to feed and drink and hunt and play.  After sunset we are back in our comfortable camp for a well deserved dinner, usually with entertainment by the lodge staff and then off to bed to rest up for another perfect day in an African paradise.

Please join us on safari with Paul Renner.  It is the trip of a lifetime and you too may see that leopard grow up and find a mate or commune with that elephant or hear the fish eagles and experience that African sunset. Deb & Stan Komatsu

Important information about our safaris:

Prices for our safaris to Kenya and Tanzania include international airfare from LAX – most other companies do not include airfare.
We have only three passengers per nine passenger 4×4 safari Land Cruiser so You will enjoy plenty of space for you and your equipment.
We stay in luxury safari lodges and tented camps.
You do not have to be a photographer but you must enjoy watching the wildlife because that is what we do!
I will be there to photograph with you and available to answer your questions.
Parks we visit on our African safaris.

On our Tanzania/Kenya safaris we have only three passengers per nine passenger vehicle giving you plenty of space for you and your photo equipment. You can photograph through windows on BOTH sides of the vehicle and also from the top, which pops up to create shade so you are protected from the hot, equatorial sun. Compared to other tours that pack the vans with up to eight people, this is a huge deal.

When using six great guides, you will hardly believe all of the wildlife they find. We have trained them to understand lighting, composition and what we are trying to achieve. Our guides are awesome! As we leave the lodges on our game drives to hunt for animals, the vehicles separate and spread out. This allows us to have up to six guides each looking for wildlife. They each have radios to share what they find so no one misses out. Our safaris are designed for the ultimate photographic experience, however please don’t be intimidated from enjoying one my photo safaris just because you are not a photographer or you don’t use a “great camera.” If you enjoy wildlife you will love these safaris and more than likely you’ll come home with your own great photos too! I will be photographing on our game drives too, but I am available to answer your questions and am happy let you know how I am photographing each subject so you can learn more about photography and bring home your own great photos too. To avoid disappointment, make your reservations today.

To reserve your space on our photo safaris, please call Paul Renner at (949) 295-3136, or email him at: paulrenner3@cox.net or call Prem Sharma at Best Safaris (800) 757-6625

Safari Photos by Linda Velasco

We first learned about Paul’s African trips at his photography exhibit at the Laguna Beach Sawdust Festival; then a friend told us about the many Renner Safaris she and her husband had gone on and she shared their incredible safari photos. Intrigued, we checked out the trip descriptions and photos on Paul’s website…the trips looked wonderful and very special; however, they were more expensive than the average trip.  Then we began to meet more and more people who had been on Paul’s African trips. Each and every one said it was “the best trip they had ever experienced” and urged us to go!  We decided to take the plunge and signed up for the 2013 Botswana Safari and added the side trip to Victoria Falls.  It turned out to be the best travel decision we have ever made! Paul’s safaris are definitely not an average trip to Africa.  From the moment we all met in Johannesburg, we knew we were in for a wonderful adventure.  Every detail of the trip – transportation, lodging, meals, safaris, transfers and more – was expertly planned and executed with absolutely no hassles or problems. Our lodges were beautiful, comfortable and staffed by professional and friendly people who could not do enough for us and welcomed Paul back like a cherished friend. All the meals (and there was a meal every few hours it seemed!) were expertly prepared and delicious and the staffs were able to accommodate our vegetarian diet as well. Our chartered flights between camps were a great way to go…no long vehicle rides and the thrill of viewing the African landscape from the air.  The most important thing we found, and the singular item that differentiates Paul’s safaris from others, was the opportunity to view the abundant wildlife at length, to spend time with each animal in order to observe, photograph, enjoy and just soak in the wonder of being with some of the most magnificent creatures on earth.  It is an experience that will enrich you and change you forever.  On top of all that, Paul is an excellent African photography mentor, travel guide and amenable travel companion and his love of Africa and its wild creatures is abundant and always apparent. As a bonus,  we shared our trip with a group of the most compatible and helpful people we could ask for and made friendships that will last a lifetime.  We were so happy with this trip that we immediately signed up for the Kenya and Tanzania trip next spring and can’t wait to see another part of Africa with Paul.  If you want an excellent safari, an experience that will touch your heart and a trip you will remember forever, then you will want to go on a Renner Safari and if you are a photographer,  be prepared to see your photography improve dramatically! Thank you Paul! Steve & Linda Velasco – Costa Mesa
